The Save Our Bikes team wants to design and build covered bike shelters around campus. Rusting bikes are a growing concern for the large student population, Swamp Rabbit Trail users, and Greenville community who live and visit campus. We want these bike shelters to be not just aesthetically pleasing, but also functional. Click on the links below to find out more about this project.
The Save Our Bikes team consists of Sidney Dills, Lilly Flewellen, Louis McEleveen, Zachary Ashburn, and Laura McComb. They are sponsored by Furman's Physics department and the Shi Center for Sustainability.
Goal: Raise $5000 to build bike shelters and maintenance stands outside Furman's SoHo residences
Hands on Learning Experiences

We want Physics and Pre-Engineering majors, as well as any other interested students, to design and construct covered bike shelters themselves with the aid of the science faculty, facility services, the Shi Center, Campus Safety, Housing and Residence Life, and other parts of the university.
Hands on learning is an important part of learning and gaining experience and this project could be a tool to those ideas. Let's make this exemplify a liberal arts education.
This project would be done over the course of time, with different shelters being designed by new students each year for different parts of campus.
For our initial project, we hope to build shelters in the South Housing area, since bikes are left there overnight. See some of our shelter design ideas and sketches in the "Design and Function" tab above.
