saveourbikes
The Save Our Bikes team wants to design and build covered bike shelters around campus. Rusting bikes are a growing concern for the large student population, Swamp Rabbit Trail users, and Greenville community who live and visit campus. We want these bike shelters to be not just aesthetically pleasing, but also functional. Click on the links below to find out more about this project.
The Save Our Bikes team consists of Sidney Dills, Lilly Flewellen, Louis McEleveen, Zachary Ashburn, and Laura McComb. They are sponsored by Furman's Physics department and the Shi Center for Sustainability.
Goal: Raise $5000 to build bike shelters and maintenance stands outside Furman's SoHo residences
Student Opinions
We asked several Furman students what having covered bike racks would mean to them. This is what they had to say.
"Grocery bags are a big red flag"
"It would really extend the life of my bike"
"Not having to lock my bike in the stairwell and cause a firehazard"
"We need to create a biking culture on campus"
"I have bought another bike because of rust"
"It would encourage me to ride my bike to class, rather than getting my roommates to drive me when the weather is bad"
"Having protection for my bike would give me more incentive to purchase one and use it on campus"
